Chinquapin Faculty in the Community

Art teacher, Seema Nanda, teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th art, studio art, and printmaking.

Seema is one of Chinquapin’s newest faculty members and has swiftly become a part of the community.

She was recently asked Why Chinquapin?

I believe in Chinquapin because every child deserves care, attention, and a great education. It is an honor and a privilege to serve my students here. I like the small scale of the school, which allows teachers and students to form a strong community. Education is one avenue that opens doors for students in their futures. It is a very important avenue, one which my mother’s side (and my father’s side) has been undertaking since around 1947. When I came here recently to chat with Dr. Scrutchin, I knew quite quickly that I would really enjoy teaching here.

A Mount Holyoke College graduate, Seema was recently profiled in the alumnae magazine. There she shared her philosophy and her work with a number of Houston nonprofits — including Chinquapin partner, Girls Inc., and — Project Row Houses, co-founded by her mentor, Jesse Lott.

We invite you to read her profile, which also features photos of her artwork, here.

Seema, welcome aboard! And thanks for all you do for our community!
