Be Bold! The planning team for Creativity Week 2020 challenged teachers and students to dream big and tackle new ideas — the groups delivered!
One group transformed an abandoned tire structure into a home for bunnies and a local food garden, and another remodeled all the bathrooms in the science building. Money Think focused on making responsible financial decisions; Good Eats was all about how to cook on a budget; a woodworking group learned how to carve beautiful objects.
Through field trips students connected their projects to the real world. Etiquette students took a manners course and ballroom dance lessons; Explore Houston Burrs traveled all over our vast city, from an architecture class at UH to the Houston Zoo.
As well, nearly every class hosted guest speakers on campus: We had talks by chefs for the cooking class, and Chinquapin alumna, Shiarnice Taylor, a published author, spoke to the creative writing group.
Showcase rounded out the week: Talented performance groups amazed the audience. Several groups hosted mini-lessons and demonstrations, including makeovers by Beauty Business. Stand-Up Comedy put on a full show of hilarious routines perfected with some help from a professional comic; the dance group impressed with their creative choreography and energetic performance; and Making the Band put on a live outdoor concert that had everyone singing along!
